Earlier this week, Broadway favorites gathered to celebrate the Canal Room's 10th anniversary with the Back To The Eighties Show along with Rock & Roll star Constantine Maroulis, Jessie's Girl and surprise celebrity guests. Lenay is best known for her show MTV's 10 on Top. She was born in The Congo, Africa, but moved to Minnesota when she was 4. In high-school she began posting videos of her & her friends on YouTube. She went to college to be a Spanish Teacher, but when one of her videos went viral, Red Bull asked her to host shows for them. She began missing class to host Red Bull shows around the U.S., Canada, and Europe. She finished her degree and spent her last semester abroad in South America. Shortly after returning to the states she moved to LA to pursue hosting & acting.
She soon got an audition for MTV2, and since she couldn't go in person she sent in a video audition. She did not get the part, however the video made it's way around the network into the hands of people at MTV who wanted her for 10 on Top, she got the gig. Justin Bieber was her co-host in the pilot episode, but did not go on to do the series. For the first 2 years of the show Lenay resided in Nashville, and MTV flew her out to NYC to film 3 days a week. The show went on to have over 100+ episodes, with co-hosts ranging from Ariana Grande or Selena Gomez, to Macklemore or Ken Jeong. Lenay filmed/pitched show ideas while at MTV.
